Savatage自1983年推出首張專輯「Sirens」以來，
25年之間，共交出17張錄音室作品及2張Live專輯，
熟捻該團的樂迷都了解Savatage對追求音樂深度的不遺餘力。
從早期單純的Heavy Metal開始，
Savatage一直在每張作品添加新的元素，
如將咆哮的電吉他與柔美的古典鋼琴結合、
以深俱省思的故事來作為創作的導向，
因而造就出「Gutter Ballet」、「Streets」、
「Dead Winter Dead」這些劃時代的經典。
創作靈魂Jon Oliva鑑於已故吉他手Criss Oliva無可取代的地位，
遂將Savatage帶向新的音樂領域－概念前衛，
Jon Oliva相信音樂已不是單純的聽覺感受而已，
在某些方面，音符對聆聽者的思考已有些許程度的影響，
因此Savatage在創作時會希冀藉由這微妙的化學變化帶來正面積極的意義。

感想
Savatage，
一支來自美國的老牌前衛金屬團，
走過25個年頭，
至今仍屹立不搖。
前衛金屬，
是重金屬音樂的一個分支，
融合前衛搖滾與重金屬的音樂風格，
前衛金屬結合了強大的、吉他主導的金屬音樂、
複雜的編曲結構、奇特的拍子記號、
與前衛搖滾中錯綜複雜的樂器演奏，
部分前衛金屬樂團也受到了融合爵士樂與西洋古典音樂的影響，
如同前衛搖滾的歌曲，
前衛金屬歌曲常常比一般的金屬歌曲還要長，
並時常結合概念專輯的方式。
前衛金屬登上主流市場是在1990年早期，
德國女皇樂團的《Silent Lucidity》成為電台與MTV的熱門單曲，
這首歌曲不是典型的前衛金屬樂曲，
但這首歌的流行增加了其他前衛金屬樂團的知名度，
1993年，Dream Theater的《Pull Me Under》在電台與MTV中受到歡迎，
1990年代，救贖代價、殘月魔都、亞力安傳說、
Galexia 與X交響樂樂團各自發展出獨具特色的音樂。
前衛金屬，
總是讓人感覺不到很強烈的金屬元素，
但是他們卻是最錯綜複雜的金屬種類之一，
但或許是我們已經習慣了DT式的那種前衛，
而去忽略了其他一樣很努力創作的前衛金屬團，
但是像是Pain Of Salvation以及Opeth等，
都是很不錯的樂團代表!!
Savatage這之前衛金屬樂團，
說他們前衛，
Johnson個人覺得他們比較偏向heavy metal以及power metal，
前衛的成分到是沒有這麼的明顯，
但是他們的音樂，
不知是因為時空背景的關係，
還是有其它的原因，
感覺音樂之中帶有不少的鄉村搖滾的元素在裡面，
算是比較少見的，
他們的音樂，
不快，不兇，
但是會讓你聽了以後，
有種欲罷不能的感覺，
他們沒有很爽的solo，
也沒有千變萬化的旋律，
但是，
卻有另外一種不同的風格去吸引著聽歌的人。
Savatage嚴格來說，
並不能算是好的前衛金屬團，
但是他們卻絕對是好的金屬樂團，
或許這兩句話看起來很矛盾，
但是當你細細去品味他們的音樂時，
或許就可以知道我說的意思了!!
