只要看到招牌的綠眼骷髏蝙蝠團徽，

聽見極速兇悍的金屬之聲，

就會想起紐澤西老牌部隊Overkill！








成軍至今30載，以15張100% Pure Thrash Metal專輯的強烈猛攻，

非但贏得全球硬派份子熱烈的死忠追隨，

更與號稱The Big 4 Bands之一的Anthrax，

並列為美國東岸最成功的鞭笞雙雄。








原本同屬龐克樂團The Lubricunts的貝斯Carlos "D.D." Verni 與鼓手Rat Skates，

在1980年解散後找來了D.O.A主唱Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth籌備全新計畫Overkill。

草創初期雖然還是以翻唱The Ramones、The Dead Boys的歌曲為主，

稍晚就開始嘗試加入Judas Priest、Motohead、Riot的正統Heavy Metal元素至創作內，

匯集速度與重力於大成；而尖銳失真的主唱音色和技術高超的樂手表現，

配上批判性強烈的詞句創作，同時塑造出獨樹一格的招牌風格。









甫出道時加盟傳奇廠牌Megaforce旗下，

於1985到1989年間陸續發表「Feel The Fire」、「Taking Over」、

「Under The Influence」、「The Years Of Decay」等作品，

儘管轟炸十足的力道與不向主流妥協的精神立刻吸引到一票信徒，

卻也因為同期有著Metallica、Slayer、Exodus之輩灣區當紅的強敵圍繞，

使得銷售成績遲遲無法突破，

直至參與了Megadeth全美巡迴演出後才算真正的敖出頭；

關鍵第五擊「Horrorscope(1991)」更在MTV’s Headbangers Ball的推波助瀾下，

終於令所有Thrasher都注意到了這組潛力無窮的明日之星。









而隨著歷代陣容的替換也讓音樂上表現越漸黑暗，

創作軸心Bobby和Carlos不諱言是受Black Sabbath的影響深遠之緣故；

就在進入千禧年面臨到Alternative/Nu-Metal文化崛起的衝擊，

導致眾家團隊不是轉型就是消聲匿跡，

Overkill卻依牢牢堅守著自我本色並持續推出多張高評價傑作，

反而成功度過如此金屬勢微動盪不安的年代，

為鞭笞樂壇立下優良典範。

感想



Overkill，

一支來自美國鞭金大國的樂團，

一直於metallica, slayer等大團的光環下，

默默在鞭金這塊熬出頭的樂團。









一講到美國的鞭答金屬，

大家想到的不外乎就是Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus等，

赫赫有名的大團，

也有許多人認為，

這些樂團，

就是美國鞭金的代表，

但是卻不知道，

除了這些所謂的大團之外，

還有很多默默耕耘的樂團，

也有不少的支持者存在。









Thrash Metal (鞭擊金屬)

速度也極快，具有相當快速的反覆節拍，

電吉他粗麻的音色刷出慓悍的和弦，

極具破壞力及壓迫感的速踩雙大鼓，

主唱粗暴狂吼式的唱腔配合電吉他快速的節奏急速的唱出幾無旋律的曲調，

「鞭擊金屬」以來自舊金山灣區的重金屬團體最具代表性。





而Overkill正是來自灣區的樂團，

他們的音樂擁有灣區標準的樂風，

一連串的雙踏，

再加上擁有速度感的吉他solo，

讓人一聽到就感覺到有一種熱血奔放的感覺，

這就是灣區的鞭金。









很多所謂的大團，

因應潮流，

漸漸的在改變他們的樂風，

變得要鞭不鞭，

但是像Overkill這樣，

能夠堅守鞭答金屬的樂團，

說實在話，

真的已經不多了。
