來自於New york的Manowar，成軍於1980年，由貝斯手Joey DeMaio，吉他手Ross The Boss組成。
將近20年融合歐式及美式精華的重金屬猛團創團元老貝斯手Joey DeMaio，
原本是Black Sabbath的音控師，
1981年在一場英國紐塞的演唱會上，
與當時是Shakin Street吉他手的Ross the Boss一見如故後，
便有組Manowar的念頭，
後來主唱Eric Adams與鼓手Donny Hamzik 的加入，
使Manowar正式成立。
樂團在1982年發表首張專輯《Battle Hymns》，裡面就包含了由名演員Orson Welles跨刀獻聲擔任口白的名曲"Dark Avenger"。
在第二張專輯時鼓手由打起鼓來會使人敬畏的Scott Columbus入替，
當時樂團跟唱片公司的合約是破天荒的用鮮血簽約，
在花了6天時間錄製了第3張專輯《Hail to England》後，
Manowar開始在英國巡迴演出。
Manowar樂隊的音樂是狂野的、喧囂的，無窮的力量配合著磅礴的古典樂段，
還交支著電鋸般的吉他獨奏，
有趣的是，Manowar樂隊曾用10噸重的音箱，
40英尺長，21英尺高的揚聲器，
打破吉尼斯世界紀錄--成為世界上最“吵”的樂隊。

感想
Manowar，來自美國的老牌重金屬樂團，
經過時代的洪流，
依然屹立不搖。
Power Metal，
可以分為美式力金以及歐式力金，美國力量金屬在1980年代冒起，
Metal Church、Savatage、Helstar、
Jag Panzer、Manowar及近似的樂團，
他們演繹出來的風格帶有鞭笞金屬的味道。
有人認為現代的美國團隊如Iced Earth和 Nevermore，
就是該類型音樂的佼佼者，但始終被#歐洲力量金屬和敲擊金屬所蓋過，
並意味著美國力量金屬的沒落。
歐洲力量金屬主要在1980年代由德國樂團Accept帶領而成，
他們融合了猶太祭司重複段和仿AC/DC唱法，再引入德國民謠和傳統音樂於重金屬音樂中，
他們的音樂無論是唱的部分和吉他的部分都充滿史詩色彩、
吸引的旋律和凱旋味道，
歌曲如"Breaker"和"Fast As A Shark"都被識定為歐洲力量金屬音樂的先河。
到了1980年代中期，
歐洲團隊如德國的Helloween注重發展樂曲上的旋律，
萬聖節樂團混合了速度金屬的重複段，
並加入了類似鐵娘子的主音唱法，更使唱腔變得響亮。力量金屬的特色，是建立在速度金屬上，
以速度金屬為基礎，加入吸引的旋律而成，
歌詞多集中於真實世界裡所發生的事情，
如個人經驗、歷史、或者是社會評論，
或是已史詩，宇宙論，超自然做為主題的歌詞也不在少數，
至於唱腔方面，多數的力金主唱皆擁有高抗響亮的嗓音，
與低音嗥叫為特色的死金形成了強烈對比。
80年代的歐美國家，出了許多令人值得欣賞的重金屬樂團，
而那個年代出道的樂團，也在重金屬的歷史上，留下了美麗的篇章，更為後輩建立起了一道鴻溝，
使後輩難以超越，就算到了現在這個世代，
他們雖然老了，但是那股最真誠的重金屬精神，
卻是後起之秀，難以超越的高牆。
Manowar這支樂團，自成立至今，
一直用一種穩定的精神去創造每張專輯，
去演唱每首歌曲，
他們的樂曲，很多都會有那種在90年代後期成立的樂團中看不到的磅礡氣勢，
聽他們的歌曲，就有如你是正在參加一場聖戰的戰士一般，很容易就可以融入其中的意境。
80年代的樂團，多到枚不勝數，
大多數在現在的樂界都還有在活動，對於這個年代的樂團有興趣的朋友，
其實也是有非常多的樂團可以選擇，
而且這些樂團，也都屬於比較比較熱血的樂團，
值得細細品味!!
